A visit to the High Arctic island of Spitsbergen is a visit to one of our world’s last wilderness areas. In June, the arctic tundra is bursting with a rich collection of amazing wildlife and diverse flora, and the northern sea ice is still thick, giving us a good chance of spotting the majestic polar bear.

Level of fitness: It is very important you are aware that, as a minimum, an average level of fitness and mobility' is required to undertake our escorted programs. Travellers must be able to walk without the aid of another person, climb 3-4 flights of stairs (ship does not have an elevator and collapsible wheelchairs only permitted), step into/out of a shower over bath (many European hotels do not have walk-in showers), and carry their own luggage at a minimum. Please note that many European streets are made from cobblestones. At some ports, ships will need to raft together and passengers may need to walk between vessels. Travellers with a pre-existing medical condition are required to complete a short medical questionnaire, which must be signed by their physician. This is to ensure that travellers have the necessary fitness and mobility to comfortably complete their chosen trip. While our staff work hard to ensure that all our travellers are catered for equally, it is not their responsibility to help individuals who cannot complete the day's activities unaided. Travellers who need such assistance must be accompanied by a qualified companion.
