OVEREVIEW OF WINDSTAR CRUISES

Customer Review from the Oceania Nautica

Stephen and Maria recently returned from their cruise on board Oceania Nautica and thouroughly enjoyed themselves, see below their feedback.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your email welcoming us home.

Both Maria and I agree that this was our best trip ever.

We could not have been more impressed with the ship and the whole cruise experience onboard Nautica.

We found the food, decor, service standards, entertainment and cleanliness to be outstanding. The size and location of the cabin was also good.

Before we left you told us about the Oceania reputation for culinary excellence so we were expecting the food to be good.

It was sensational! I’m sure we have returned to Bunbury several kilos heavier.

Who would believe being offered a printed menu of ten olive oils and four balsamic vinegars to chose from at the Italian speciality restaurant?!The opportunity to indulge in whole fresh lobster and prawns on consecutive nights certainly beats eating Maria’s pasta in front of the TV. The hardest choice was deciding where to dine each night. We were lucky enough to obtain a total of five reservations in the speciality restaurant, Toscana and Polo Grill.

We enjoyed the opportunity to visit so many really interesting cities in a short period of time. Sometimes it was quite frustrating to have to leave such beautiful cities as Riga and Tallin after such a short visit.

The average age group onboard was generally around our own age and we met many very interesting people whom we hope to stay in touch with. The size of the ship (638 passengers) was perfect for us ……big enough to offer plenty of amenities but small enough to retain a more intimate atmosphere.

The crew were extremely friendly and well trained .They were very well drilled in maintaining hygiene standards in that no passenger was able to touch the food behind the service counter. It was always presented to us by the staff by means of serving tongs or white gloves.

We are not aware of anyone getting sick.

All in all….we would very highly recommend this cruise and this cruise company.

It was a truly memorable experience.

Thanks again for your efforts in helping organise it for us, Stephen.

With best regards,

Stephen and Maria Craddock

P.S The ultimate highlight for me was in Stockholm. They had their “Kulturfest” on and we spent 90 minutes in the square alongside the Opera House enjoying a free concert of excerpts from the Swedish State Opera’s forthcoming season. Amazing.

ANDREA’S “NORWAY & THE HIGH ARCTIC CRUISE TOUR”

DEPARTING 10 JUNE 2018

In June 2015, Crandon and I escorted a small group of 20 travellers to Norway and Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago, located above the Arctic Circle. This was such an exciting treat for me … back in the 80’s I backpacked through Scandinavia and absolutely fell in love with Norway. To be able to return to this breathtakingly beautiful part of the world with such a wonderful group of people was an incredible experience.

I will be returning to Norway and Spitsbergen with a small group of 12 guests in June 2018, and I invite you to join me.

A visit to the High Arctic is a visit to one of Earth’s last wilderness areas. June is early summer, and the arctic tundra is bursting with a rich collection of amazing wildlife and diverse flora. The northern sea ice is still thick, offering the local polar bears a rich hunting ground, and giving us the best chance of spotting one of these majestic creatures. 24 hours of continuous daylight offers endless opportunities to look for the little Svalbard reindeer, Arctic fox, walrus, seals, whales and many varieties of sea and land birds.

Our cruise will be aboard the small ship ‘MS Expedition’, taking up to 134 guests. This Ice Class 1B vessel is a comfortable and spacious expedition ship. All cabins have an ocean-facing window or porthole and private en-suite facilities. Large common areas and observation decks provide panoramic views of the region’s spectacular landscapes.

During the day we’ll go Zodiac cruising in small groups for exciting encounters with nature, then go ashore to take tundra walks or optional hikes. The onshore activities have several options based on your level of fitness, so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Arctic.
Back on the ship, guests can listen to educational presentations about the region’s wildlife, geology and history, and at the end of each day, meet for fine food in the dining room and lively conversation in the lounge, recapping the day’s events.

This tour includes flights with Emirates and Scandinavian Airlines, breakfast daily in the hotels, a group dinner and all meals on the cruise. All your cruise excursions are included as well as waterproof boots to keep your feet dry onshore. You’ll also receive a high-performance expedition parka to keep you warm, yours to take home at the end of the cruise.

Pre-cruise we’ll have 2 nights in Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen’s capital, with the option of taking a dog sledding/carting excursion on the free day.
Post-cruise we have 3 nights in Oslo, including a morning city tour with entry to the Viking Ship Museum. We have a free day and I am happy to assist with other sightseeing options. Some of our guests have decided to extend their holiday in Norway after our tour, and I am able to help with flights, accommodation and other tours if desired.

My tour is starting to fill, with only 3 cabins remaining. This is a fantastic adventure for travellers of all ages, so if you are looking for a unique travel experience, why not come join me.

Additional security screening at Major Australian Domestic and International Airports

The Australian Government has introduced additional aviation security measures for both international and domestic terminals at Australia’s major airports.

The travelling public can expect to experience an increased level of security scrutiny at the airport but they should not be concerned about these precautionary measures. As the measures place an additional burden on the screening system, it may take a little longer than usual to get through the process.

  • Passengers should arrive at least 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights to allow time for security screening.
  • Passengers should limit the amount of carry-on and checked baggage they travel with as this will help to ensure security screening is efficient.

There are no changes to what can and cannot be carried on-board the aircraft.

Thank you for your understanding.

Christmas Island Trip June 2016

Mathew has just returned from a trip to the tropical island of Christmas Island. Christmas Island is a beautiful Island off the coast of Indonesia and is only a 3 and a half hour flight from Perth, Western Australia.

The best time is the dry season where temperatures hover from around 25 – 30 degrees during the day and 27 – 21 at night .

What is the weather like?
Wet Season > November, December, January, February
Dry Season > May, June, July, August, September
In-between Seasons March, April, OctoberSunset Palm

While on the Island we stayed at the Sunset Hotel for the duration of our stay. The Sunset Hotel is a stone’s throw from the ocean. The hotel is a short walk to everything in town including Taverns, Cafe’s, the supermarket and the island’s main shopping district. The Sunset has a nice pool you can relax and unwind in at any time during you stay.

All rooms have an ensuite, air-conditioning, ceiling fan complimentary Wi-Fi, tea and Coffee Facilities, microwave, TV, Toaster and a Mini Bar.

The island is home to 600 species of Fish, 180 different species of land and water crabs including the Red Crab which is exclusively found on the island and 23 bird species of which 7 are endemic to Christmas Island. This amazing island is has an abundance of natural beauty and is an untouched paradise home to only 1500 residents.20160615_072816_013

Highlights of the trip was seeing the abundance of Red Crabs that can be seen all over the island, even under foot when walking through the jungle. The hiking on Christmas Island is amazing and can be classified as soft adventure. We were fortunate enough to participate in a boat tour of the island providing a different perspective of what the island has to offer.

While on the boat tour we did some snorkelling, in which we were very lucky to have a pod of dolphins swim around with us. One of my favourite parts was getting to experience the outdoor movie theatre.
